American Avocets' Mating Dance
In the early morning I saw a pair of American avocets getting ready to mate. I quickly picked a spot with the water reflecting the shadow of a wall (to get a cool dark background). As a drop of the golden Sun hit the pair, I snapped a shot of the moment when the male jumped off of the female and their beaks locked.
I like Your Shot photographer Marie Smith's comment: "Beautiful photo of these Avocets, such an intimate moment! The sun's golden ray perfectly highlights the color of their feathers against the dark background. Great timing catching the reflection in the water too."
