A gondolier pauses by his friends while they chat on their phones between rides. Gondoliers are very rarely seen relaxing during the summer months in Venice and certainly not with their phones out. The contrast between the elaborate gondolas they push through the canals of a centuries old city and the modern hand-to-ear pose brought on by mobile phones reflects to opposite ends of human technological ingenuity existing in a single moment in time.
