Kilauea Erupting Under the Milky Way
I visited the Mauna Kea observatory during the Kilauea eruption last year. We had come to the summit to watch the sunset...but after the sun went down, we saw a glow coming from the east. The volcano was shining wildly through the cloud cover below, and from here at 9,000 feet I could see this phenomena erupting under the Milky Way as shooting stars streamed by overhead.
