St. Nicholas’s chapel at cape Kanistro
The chapel is built on cape Kanistro, the southeasternmost tip of Kassandra peninsula (aka Pallēnē), an unspoiled place. In recent centuries, churches dedicated to St. Nicholas —the patron saint of seafarers— are found at sites in proximity to the seaside. In ancient Greece, too, Poseidōn’s temples were often erected in similar locations.
Mt. Athos (aka “Holy Mountain”) is seen to the right of the chapel beneath its bell, within the frame of the bell tower, from afar—from a 35 miles distance.
