We started climbing well before dawn, sometimes having to be on all fours, steadily making our way to the top of a mountain in the dark for a promised view of the sunrise from the famed pillboxes on Oahu. We made it to the top only to have the view of the sun rising out of the ocean blocked by clouds. It was disappointing and many of the sunrise chasers immediately headed back down the mountain. We lingered for a few more minutes and were rewarded with beams of light bursting through the clouds.
