At 35,000 on my way between California and St. Louis, I took a look up from my book as the sun was setting and looked down upon this. The very first thing I noticed was not the sunset sky, it was the obvious dividing line between where man has encroached on nature and where he has not yet reached. It seemed to me that civilization was somehow sandwiched between sky and mountain and; given the entire white city at the top of the hill; perhaps could have done a better job in its planning.
