The Basalt Guardian
A solitary basalt troll seems to guard the black sand beach of Reynisfjara near the town of Vik in southern Iceland. In legend, this column and other formations nearby are the remains of trolls who were caught by the rising sun after a night of fishing and transformed into rock. If you look closely you'll see that this troll is home to a number of Atlantic Puffins who build nests and breed among these rocks.
