Taqanak, Islamic Republic of Iran - The day of "Ashura" (Day of Remembrance) is the tenth day of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar, which marks the anniversary of the Karbala battle when Imam Hussein Ibn Ali, grandson of Muhammad, was killed at this site in the year 680. On this day (the last) of the celebrations of this festival, there is a reconstruction of the battle with horses, warriors properly dressed up, camels and simulation of the fights, and burning up giant tents.
