The sulfatara of Pozzuoli is one of the forty volcanoes that make up the Phlegraean Fields; is located about three kilometers from the center of the city of Pozzuoli. It is an ancient volcanic crater still active but in a quiescent state that for about two millennia has kept an activity of fumaroles of sulfur dioxide, jets of boiling mud and high temperatures.
