The Equa was built in 1929 in Naples as a merchant ship (or passengers according to other sources), in 1940 it was requisitioned by the Royal Navy during the Second World War and armed and adapted as a military ship. In 1943 it was requisitioned by Kriegsmarine and then sold to the Italian Social Republic.
