Gajan is a Hindu festival celebrated mostly in the rural areas of the Indian state of West Bengal. The most important part of Gajan is Charak Puja which is nothing but the worshipping of the Charak tree and the numerous penance-act executed by Charak Sanyasis ( devotees) around and on the tree. Here Sanyasis took part in a religious procession where they pierching their own body with sharp iron hooks. The other end of the hooks was little bit flat and contain some inflammable substance.
