Red elephants of Tsavo
The elephants in the region of Tsavo, Southeastern Kenya, are known as the red elephants because of the deep red soil. Since elephants love water they regularly take a dip and then roll in the mud or cover themselves in dust to help with the sun and insects. Thus the Tsavo elephants take on a glowing red color unlike most areas of Africa
