Thorne Bay may be the Friendliest town in SE Alaska. As a remote community, accessibly only by float plane or boat, a group of cruise ship passengers pose beneath the giant grapple, a device used to lower huge bundles of logs into the bay when the town was the largest logging camp in the United States. Today sport fishermen and visitors from as far away as New Zealand and Australia are frequent visitors. The biggest cruise ship holds 40 passengers.
