Canada in NC? - Clingman's Dome
Clingman's Dome is the tallest mtn in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park at 6643' and is the 3rd tallest mtn in the Eastern US (just 41' shorter than Mt. Mitchell). It has Canada like temps causing a spruce-fir forest and due to wet conditions, it is also a coniferous rainforest. The balsam woolly adelgid (invasive species from Europe) are killing these firs, found only in the southern Appalachians. The fir has little natural defense against it. They're literally starving to death.
