Probably the most beautiful heron on earth and one of the hardest to spot because of its behavior. Not much is known about the natural history of this beautiful bird, so far, there are seven nesting sites reported in Latin America and in Costa Rica we have two. Their diet is heavily based on fish and their preferred habitats are wetlands and mangroves areas. The distribution for this beauty goes from Mexico to Brasil but unfortunately is an endangered species due to the lack of habitats.
