When a monarch butterfly emerges from the chrysalis, it takes about two to three hours for the wings to dry in order to fly. I have to be careful with the ones I raise, so that when I release them they can fly high and fast in case a predator is near by. This one wanted to fly, but the wings weren't ready yet. She stayed a little longer and then she flew up to a tree near by.
