The elusive Quetzal
Before the reforestation project at Cloudbridge in San Gerardo de Rivas (Costa Rica) the Resplendent Quetzal had practically disappeared from the area. The Quetzal is threatened. He depends on tropical cloud forest which continues to decline because of agriculture, logging and climate change. He needs high and low elevation habitats and connecting corridors. To our delight we spotted a pair and sat for hours on boulders in the river watching them. And the male posed for us, in all his splendour.
