    Due to overfishing, arapaima (Arapaima spp.) were almost extirpated from most of its distribution throughout the Amazon basin. Recently, community-based fishing accords has arisen as a best-case scenario in biodiversity conservation to both recover overexploited fish population and provide income to the rural communities
