The herring run is a spectacular annual event that showcases the importance of having a balanced fisheries. Once a year, the waters off the coast are turned a milky white by the male herrings fertilizing milt. And once a year, a flotilla of fishing vessels enter the waters to fill their quotas. With so many competing on the open seafood buffet it's sad to think that despite the awesome spectacle we are in fact witnessing the inevitable collapse of a species.
