The Denali Highway (Alaska Route 8)
The Denali Highway is a 135 miles long, mostly gravel highway that leads from Cantwell east towards Paxson. Little used, closed to all traffic from October to mid-May, forbidden by most car rental companies, Denali Highway is the shortest route from from from Denali National Park to a less known Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve. In clear weather you can see the Wrangell Mountains, the Chugach Mountains and the Alaska Range.
