In the state of Kerala in India, snakes form a part of the Hindu temple culture. Some houses have a small part of their property set aside as 'kaavu' or home for the snake gods. Special rituals are done as a part of worship. The photo shows the preparation of a 'sarpakalam' for the ritual.
