    There's just something about this picture that makes it look more like 1912 than 2012. The interesting thing about this canal is that it is entirely hand operated, so the Parks Canada staff need to move from lock chamber to lock camber to hand crank each set of gates open. On days when the temperature is about forty degrees Celsius because of the humidity, this job looks absolutely unbearable.
