Caribou and Cairns
In late July, I went on a weekend roadtrip from North Pole, AK to Dawson City, Canada via the Top of the World Highway. Much of this narrow, dirt road meanders along the tops of mountains and ridges with endless views in every direction.
Just after crossing the border between the US and Canada, there is a hilltop filled with cairns. We stopped to look at them, and were thrilled when a small herd of caribou came up from the valley and ran across the ridge in front of us!
