    Reported by:

The Gambia has an Atlantic coastline, many tiny craft work the waters to harvest fish. There is little chance of overfishing, as the craft are so small and their methods relatively unsophisticated. To give fish a longer "shelf life" much of it is smoked. My eyes streamed as the smoke effected them, I could only last a minute at a time in the smoking rooms, men work in here for hours turning the fish by hand, all the heat is produced from burning wood.
