This vivid red, orange Scolopocryptops sexspinosus female centipede is doing something what is rarely seen in nature. This mother centipede is guarding her clutch of eggs. She has two front legs that over time have evolved into venomous fangs. They are very painful pinchers to humans & deadly to insects. These fangs will protect the eggs.A centipede will protect her eggs until hatched. This this picture gives you a tiny gimps into her world. A world often never seen by anyone. Kathleen Chute (Fawn)
