Smugglers Night
Smugglers Night is a tradition where I live, an old village called Rottingdean. For two hundred years after the mid 17th Century, sweet old Rottingdean was a central hub for smugglers to hide contraband such as tobacco and gin, to then sell them in London in the black market. Each year there is a loud procession (all flares blazing!) through the High Street and then a bonfire at the end. This year being the 5th Centenary anniversary, the booms and the bangs were the loudest as of yet!
