Fish Trap
Every morning when the tide goes out in Kiwengwa, Zanizibar, the women from the village wade out into the shallow water to build and repair these fish traps. When the tide comes in, the fish swim into the shade of the stick circle, then when the tide goes out they are trapped inside. The women take what they need and release the remainder, setting up the trap for the next tide. Sustainable, non-polluting fishing practices that have been carried out the same way for centuries.
