Seaweed farmer from Caluya
Romeo Diaz is a seaweed farmer from the Caluya Islands in the Philippines. Here he is bringing in his seaweeds to be dried on the beach before selling them. Dried seaweed is then processed into carrageenan, an organic thickening/binding agent used in many products from food to toothpaste.
Unfortunately Typhoon Haiyan washed away 80% of the seaweed crops in Caluya, since this is the main livelihood there it has become hard for the locals to make a living.
