    Edit Photo Details The moment to meet granite   #granite #cretaceous #geologist #fieldworker #sierra_nevada #horsecreek
This photo was taken when I was doing geologic field work at the northern margin of the Yosemite National Park. We spent a whole day climbing from the Twin Lakes trailhead to the Pass which led to the entrance of the YNP. We were stunned to see those giant granite outcrops once we went across the snow patches. The granite was shaped by exfoliation that yielded the rock curvatures. The rocks have been precisely dated to 86 Million years.
