    Reported by:

Spain established Mission Nuestra Señora del Espíritu Santo de Zúñiga in 1722 in northern New Spain (present day Victoria County, Texas) to convert the indiginous Karankawa Indians to Christianity. Along with its protecting fort, the Presidio La Bahia, the mission cemented Spain's territorial claims in the New World. This, the third and last location for the mission near Goliad, Texas, is a state park and museum. This photo was taken on a glorious December day, allowing me to highlight form.
