Thatched cottage, Thaxted
Thatching is an age old skill still practiced in English villages, particularly in Essex and Suffolk, where straw is weaved to make roofs. This one is unusual, as two roofs have been thatched. It is difficult to see here, but the lower one is curved. This cottage is in a very attractive village called Thaxted in Essex. If you are lucky, you may see thatchers working at their art.
