    You have to wonder just how many trees this visitor from the arctic has ever seen, let alone tried to land in! In this case he surprised us, flying close across our path in landing in a small cedar about 25-feet away. The next 14 seconds were undoubtedly a shock to the young owl as the branch it had chosen gave way and it found itself momentarily entangled in the tree, as the sequence of photos shows. Fortunately, it flew off, apparently uninjured. This was on Gooseberry Island, Westport, MA.
