    Reported by:

Female Cairns Birdwing butterfly, freshly emerged from her chrysalis. Far North Queensland, Australia is a global biodiversity hot-spot with many species that are not found anywhere else in the world and is home to several biodiversity research centres. This species is abundant throughout Northern Queensland but some related Birdwings are critically endangered. This one was resting on a tree, drying her wings before she could take to the air.
