In Greek Myth, Persephone ate six seeds of a pomegranate while being a captive of Hades. Zeus, the king of the gods, ruled that Persephone would be allowed to spend six months of the year above ground but must spend six months in Hades, a month for every seed she ate. In the months she spends in Hades, winter reigns & nothing grows. In the picture are pomegranate flowers in various stages of development. Later on, they'll form spherical round fruits encasing ruby coloured, sweet tasting seeds.
