This image of a pollen grain was taking using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and is magnified by 9223x. It is from a bumblebee and is likely pollen from the goldenrod species Solidago altissima--an important but often uncommonly recognized source of nectar for pollinators. Something else people generally don't think of is the amazing variation in pollen grains! Even closely related species have distinct features.
