Winter Larch, Yaak Valley, Montana.
I love forests, which is why I live where I do in northwest Montana, and my favorite tree is western larch. Western Larch is considered a deciduous conifer with needles that turn a brilliant golden color in fall before falling off. What isn't as well known is the dramatic blaze of white hoarfrost that larch are covered with in the winter when the right combination of moisture and below zero temperatures exist. For this photo I focused on one larch with interesting forms & backlighting.
