Rajarhat, one of the last wetlands in Kolkata is undergoing fast urbanization. Rajarhat area used to be a prime breeding-ground for Red Munias, also known Strawberry Finches. Over the last year, rapid urbanization has seen the wetlands burnt down to ashes. Seen here, a female Strawberry Finch, taking off from a burnt down paddy field. June to August is the period when these beauties adorn the grasslands. With luck, we may be able to see them this year too, but time, is running out.
