    Reported by:

Opi'i are mollusc-like shellfish that grab onto the rocks, a kind of abalone that are becoming rare. Typically on Hawaii island, they cling to the sides of steep lava ocean cliffs, where they are sought after by the natives who take enormous risks to retrieve them, often risking their lives.Waves like these are extremely powerful and many people have been swept out to sea and drowned.
