Wonderful Waxgills
Photographing fungi can be challenging, but following certain rules, like evenly lighting your subject can bring great results. Other rules, like not shooting into the light, can be flouted to excellent effect. The spectacular bokeh here results from one such transgression.
These are tiny Gliophorus lilacipes emerging from Sphagnum moss in a West Coast forest, on the South Island of New Zealand.
Who would have thought mushroms could look so pretty ?
