    Edit Photo Details Gentoo Family With Two New Chicks   #penguins #nest #chicks #stones #antarctica #gentoo #animalswelove
These two young Gentoo chicks will stay in their ground nest made of stones until they are 3-4 weeks old. The ritual of snatching pebbles from other nests is quite common as the gentoos create their homestead. I took this shot in 1999 when visiting the Antarctic Peninsula. Since then, I have given lots of talks to young school children about this trip- OK, I confess, I have 3 large stuffed animal penguins (a Gentoo, Adelie and chinstrap) that I use for teaching aids. Baby penguins: Love them!
