    I found him by following the smoke coming from behind the trees on a hillside, expecting to find a shepherd cooking his breakfast. Instead I met Eugen, a local charcoal maker who starts working his craft early mornings. He's one of the few remaining charcoal makers in Pleșa, Romania and understandably so: it's a hard and dirty job that requires long hours and inhaling a lot of smoke...

    This shot came about because of the photographer's enterprise. Without Andrei wondering about the source of a column of smoke, he would never have found this interesting individual or made the truly unique picture. When on a road trip it's the perfect time to be curious.
