Superstitions Around the World: Ravens
The first author who scared the crap out of me growing up was Edgar Allen Poe. "The Tell Tale Heart" and "The Raven" were my introduction to scary tales. Ravens are thought to be the ghosts of murder victims and/or souls of the damned. They are considered to be ill omens. That being said, I've always found them to be intelligent, delightful creatures. In fact, the raven is my spirit animal.
