    During a trek in Northern Thailand, our group met a male macaque monkey kept as a pet by our guides. The encounter sparked a heated debate over the ethics of animal tourism in Northern Thailand, an economy which our presence was feeding. When this visitor came close enough, the macaque reached through his cage and began grooming his beard.
