I took this photograph from one of several wooden walkways that go out over Lake Martin, Louisiana -- a cypress-tupelo swamp and bird rookery that is part of the Cypress Island Preserve in Southwestern Louisiana near my hometown Lafayette. It has a unique habitat that attracts nearly 60 percent of all U.S. bird species to its scenic forest of oak, cypress and tupelo trees.
