Kouwur ceremony
Kouwur is the name of a ceremony that takes place once a year in some villages of Tanna with the purpose to celebrate the initiation of boys stages of manhood.
When young boys are circumcised they are hidden for about one month until their wounds are healed. Once they are allowed to come out from their hiding place the ceremony takes place and their family and the rest of the village wait for them to celebrate. The girl on this image was waiting for her brother to return.
