A Tengger horseman stops for an early morning cigarette break against a backdrop of Gunung Bromo volcano in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. The horseman and horse both share the same rock to get temporary relief from the hot volcanic sand. Although traditionally farmers and nomadic herders, many of the Tengger now make a living from offering horseback rides to tourists who visit the park and who choose not to climb the volcano under their own steam.
