Seaweed farmer from Sibolo Island
Romeo Diaz is a seaweed farmer from Sibolo Island, part of the Caluya Islands in the Philippines. This remote region relies mainly on seaweed farming as a form of livelihood, many of the locals have left destructive fishing practices behind and switch to a more profitable and sustainable way of life by farming and drying seaweed. The seaweed crops are dried and eventually turned into carrageenan, a thickening/binding agent found in products from dogfood to shampoo.
