    Many of us fail to realize the monumental contributions of geological processes to our everyday enjoyments. Indeed, most of the swimmers who arrived on this particular day seemed quite oblivious that this unique phenomenon was hundreds of thousands of years (or more) in the making. We imagine -- or would *like* to imagine -- that the photo here presents a view that remained largely unchanged for untold eons.
