Northern mockingbird
This mockingbird is not singing - it is panting because it is hot! New Orleans is pretty warm this time of year and every one of our residents, human animal or otherwise, has to find a way to keep cool. Some of us stay inside, some stick to the shade - territorial birds fluff their feathers and pant in the sun. This one's territory happens to be in Jackson Square in the heart of the French Quarter.
