The Washington Monument downtown DC was damaged by an earthquake in 2011 - the largest in the area. During the repairs in the tip of the monument a scaffold encased the monument for a year. Making the sight somewhat more appealing, the scaffold was illuminated by hundreds of lights at night. This was taken on the last evening the scaffold was light up. Nature had its own say and provided a nice and interesting show in the sky. The monument was reopened to visitors in spring 2014.
